Ten sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.

The court delivered suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.

A circulating unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's gender.

Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside any factual proof contradicting her allegations opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has often echoed these allegations on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.

The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
